چکیده
Case Summary: A 33-year old female with a history of Crohn’s disease presented with complaints of upper abdominal pain and bilious vomiting. She had been receiving Adalimumab and Mesalamine for treatment of Crohn’s disease. A liver panel revealed alkaline phosphatase (ALP): 188 IU/L, aspartate aminotransferase (AST): 1,638 IU/L, alanine transaminase (ALT): 592 IU/L, total bilirubin: 2.5 mg/dL, and direct bilirubin: 1.6 mg/dL. Adalimumab and Mesalamine were discontinued and by day 6 liver panel improved to ALP: 154 IU/L, AST: 57 IU/L, ALT: 163 IU/L, and total bilirubin: 0.8 mg/dL. Upon discharge Adalimumab was restarted and Mesalamine was discontinued.

WS For Crohn’s disease, mesalamine products are sometimes used, but they are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are not very effective. Corticosteroid formulations, both conventional corticosteroids and ileal-release budesonide, are effective and used for induction. Azathioprine, 6-mercaptopurine, and methotrexate are oral immunosuppressive drugs that are sometimes us...

In the present study, an attempt was made to develop galactosylated albumin nanoparticles of Cimetidine for treatment of Acetaminophen induced hepatotoxicity. By developing the galactosylated nanoparticulated delivery of Cimetidine the required action of drug at the target site i.e at liver can be provided. The advantage of targeting helps to reduce the systemic side effects which may ...

This study investigated the protective effect of fish oil (FO) on cisplatin (CP) toxicity in the rat liver. Twenty-eight rats were divided equally into four groups, with the first being a control group. The second group (CP group) was given 7 mg/kg of CP and the third group (FO group) was given 1 FO softgel/rat/day for 14 days. The rats in the fourth group (CP + FO group) were treated with both...

Background: Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) has shown effectiveness in the treatment of leukemia, but it is also associated with hepatotoxicity. Given antileukemic drug-induced oxidative stress and toxicity, this study focused on the mitigatory role of eugenol, a monoterpene compound from clove oil, in the hepatic tissue of Wistar rats. Methods: Twenty-four male Wistar rats (180–250 g) were randomly di...
